Cover Story

This issue’s cover shows a sketch of the proposed signaling pathway initiated by GLP-1 to control hepatic lipid metabolism. GLP-1 is released into the blood by gut cells and reaches GLP-1 receptor expressing cells in hypothalamic nuclei. From the brain the signal is directed to the liver via parasympathetic neurons. In the liver, the signal ameliorates VLDL production and de novo lipogenesis. The experimental model utilized Syrian golden hamsters which are represented on the cover.
